Bran Mak Morn by Frank Frazetta


Colorado Springs, 1972, I go over to Scottie Scott's house to draw some comics for him (he thought I was a great artist) in exchange for stuff he was bored with.  Unfortunately, he wasn't bored with this, so it took me another twenty years to get my copy, and my copy is not in the pristine shape that I recall Scottie Scott possess'n

    This really is an superb piece of paperback art. I think this, alongside the painting 'Neanderthal' (from that Creepy/Eerie cover) was responsible for creating more Frazetta copyists/clones than even his Conan work.

    Couldn't agree more. This and Neanderthal have haunted me (in a good way) since 1969, and not only did I discover them around the same time, they always struck me as very similar.     All my Pict friends say this makes them look too bestial but it did capture their savagery.

    I agree with your buds--as a work of art it's amaz'n, but the literature (ie the writings of REH) lead me to picture Picts as more like my ancestors (I'm a quarter Alabama, or "long hut" Native American), that is, less bestial and more "suave-eh"
