Speak'n Of Calendars

Last post I was talk'n bout the non-existant Barry Smith calendar, but here's a coupla other nifty planners.  First is the Frank Frazetta current calendar, then the horse it rode in on, then my fav monthly image in this 2027 calendar, and the horse IT rode in on.  I believe that's the first Conan Fritz ever did, so next is the last Conan he did. After that, here's the Destroyer cover from the Fritz calendar 2 years ago, and the 2 foot by 3 foot poster that Wal-mart calls the Destroyer (a rose by any other name is still a Buccaneer).  Then we have the Jack Kirby cover to the 1977 Marvel calendar, then how Jack intended it, then a Kirby page from that calendar, and finally a John Buscema from that calendar.  This just in, apparently the Marvel Comics Memory Album calendar will now be released every fifty years

 

The Calendar Beyond Time by Barry Smith

Coupla beauts for calendar covers, but the thing is, 2003's does not exist.  Time may be a wave or stream, but sometimes the eddies seem to play havoc.  That reminds me:  as you may have noticed, I occasionally pepper these babblings with dad jokes.  Well, I told you a joke about time travel, but you will not be amused

Okay, office work is probly as important to SHIELD as a lotta other places, but I can see why stuff like this might get left out of an action-packed comic

Only the first one is new on here, but I just realized I haven't gotten this Thor since I first lifted weights in the early 80s

 

Unused Title Page and Frontis For The Scarlet Citadel by Roy Krenkel

First one has been on here before, but both these are biggerbetterfasterstronger.  Wish Roy coulda gotten the chance to finish this book before he passed-I think it woulda eclipsed Sowers Of Thunder (sigh).  Krenkel's Conan was dynamically different from his buddy Fritz's version, and I always dug how much a Krenkel Conan looked like Robert E. Howard before there were barbershops

Union by Barry Smith and Jim Lee

First is 3 versions of Barry's great cover that somehow got missed on here (maybr just me, but the bad guy's fist looks like a roar'n lion), then the iconic Union by his creator.  Speak'n of which, the creator of the Heat Index recently passed away.  He was 84, but it felt like he was 92

Okay, don't be hate'n, but I made it a point to avoid Man-Thing when it was a thang, so I just saw these Vikings, but better late than never

 

Superman Special #2 Splash by Gil Kane

Luv this double-page splash so much, and as I said in the wayback, might never would've seen it if that water-logged copy wasn't sit'n in a comic shop bargain bin, and now I can see the original (and perfectly dry) art.  It's taken 16 years, so far, but it's awesome when a plan starts to come together

 

Magnus (No, Not The Robot-Biter) and Arin by Jack Kirby

Speak'n of Kirby animation (last post), here's a great one, and the page from Jimmy Olsen #146 I almost immediately flashed to when I first saw it

 

Challs by Neal Adams, Berni Wrightson (?), and Jack Kirby

First is the cover to Challengers of the Unknown #74, then a one-page story by young Berni that appeared in that (thanks again to McSCOTTY!  I never woulda known about this on my own), then my fav thing in the Challs first appearance, Showcase #6, and finally, some thirty years later, Jack's animation concept Roxy is re-captured IFO a very similar giant stone warrior wear'n a helmet
