The Enemies of the Colony Splash by Wally Wood

aaaaand the best view of the centanks that came from that story (there was another centank earlier in the tale, but he was just a bobble head smok'n a pipe, and this guy looks like what a half man/ half tank SHOULD look like

Ming The Merciless VS Flash Gordon by John Fantucchio

Oh, my heck!  When this post title has been up here before, it was always about the che great Collector fanzine cover, not this pic that;s been around since 1968 as part of a fanzine's photo spread from a convention

Father's Day by Jack Kirby

As a dad, I see elements of both these dads in myself.  Speak'n of dad-do you know why you can't run through a campground?  You can only ran through a campground, cause it's past tense (past tents).  Steranko once told a dad joke during a fanzine interview in the early seventies:  "I went to the doctor the other day, and he said I had Parkinson's Disease...and Parkinson had mine!"  Dark, but still a classic dad joke

Unused Black Krackle by Jack Kirby

This Black Panther splash didn't make it into the comic, which is a shame to me, as I've always dug me some Kirby Krackle.  Late last century, I was at the comic shop re-purchasing some BPs when Steve made an astute observation while ring'n me up.  "This may well be the most under-rated comic series of all time," he said.  Way before the movies, and pretty spot-on, I thought, but Steve was always more than a "comic shop guy."  He was my Obi-Wan of comics.  He saw me picking up some Stalkers, and led me to the Jungle Jims where Wally Wood and Ditko had first teamed up.  He led me to Web O Horror and Kirby Unleashed (befoe eBay!).  Bazillion other treasures, too, but mainly I miss his words of wisdom.
Anyhoo, I got another Cap'n's Non-Prize bubbl'n over here.  Of the twelve issues of Kirby's Black Panther, which splash replaced this jewel? Diversions of the Groovy Kind has had all the splashes up for 16 years, if that can assist

The Silver Age Trad'n Card by Barry Smith

See some waybacks for Avengers 100, but it's great to see this handshake without all the word ballloons.  This moment was years before Howie came up with the fist-bump

Superman by Clyde Caldwell

I said it 53 years ago (I know it's dated 72, but I didn't see it until 1973, in TBG #40), and I'll say it again, this is weird, but che wunnerful.  Dated the same year as my fav Clyde (Conan, on here in the wayback), this shares that rich, decadent strangeness that I like to call fanzine Caldwell

The Ultimate Triumph Endpapers by Frank Frazetta

This Fire'n Ice plate was up on here a coupla times in the wayback, but not in this big, colorful format.  The biggest UT joy for me (when I remember to dig it out) is see'n this version at the beginning and end of the book.  please embiggen

Coupla Charlie Chan Covers by Jack Kirby

Both che great, and bang-bang on the publication.  There were some others, but you know how picky I am (stop think'n about my nose!  that's allergies! "that's no banana, that's my nose!").  Dunno how Jack did it, but they both have awesome panoramas on regular size covers

A Fistful Of Steve Fritz

The Star Studded's been on here forever and a day, but Fritz was a true fan artist for the fanzines (woulda loved to've seen him at Marvel, DC, or Charlton, but I never spotted him).  If you know of other Fritz's, please holla

Together Again For The First Time: Frank Frazetta and Jack Kirby

Course we all know of the epic meet'n of the masters in 1988's Last Of The Viking Heroes Summer Special #1, but this TBG ad from the early seventies shows the fanzine Gas Lite #9 had em both in it's pages, and now they'll be together this fall in George's Lucas Museum (just heard the clos'n song from Grease as I wrote that).  Once again, I'm wowed by the Lucas genius.  In 73, I saw American Graffiti in the theater 9 times

Hounds De Skaith by Jim Steranko

Only the first image is new on here.  I agree with Joyce that "I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree," but I also think that I shall never see an orange panorama as lovely as a Skaithian Hound Dog

Spanish Swamp Thing by Berni Wrightson

Wayback at the beginning of da blog (Jan. of 2010) I put up the second image, an unpublished Swamp Thing which I found (and still find) incredibly beautiful.  Now, at this end of da blog, I see it's been published.  nice

Yet Another Thermal Man by Jack Kirby

Okay, poke me with a fork, but I think I'm done

Another Dow Girl by Frank Frazetta

The rough is new on here.  Apparently, in 1972, Dow Chemical had the crazy idea that most of our stuff could be made out a resins.  Yeah, right!  And we'll probly make it all with 3-D printers!  Hah!  Hey, wait a sec...
