The Mysteryian by Mystery Artist
Dig it soooo much, but really am clueless. E-bay says it's Kirby, but it ain't, yet I look at the Kirbyesque costume, and passing through walls, and resonate on sump'n sump'n about a fan artist back in the day (signed stuff Art, methinks) who always made me do a double take. Clue the Cap'n in, if you can

There appears to be a signature on the left hand side of the drawing, but I can't read it. Short of that, I'd say early Barry Smith, but not really sure.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it reminds me of Keith Giffen.
ReplyDeleteNice one, although he would've only been 17 years old, but now that you said it, I can definitely see Giffen, and I finally found some amateur publications with this guy Art I was think'n of, and this work is def much better
ReplyDeleteEarly Steve Rude?
ReplyDeleteOkay, I found another scan on E-Bay from somebody who put this up along with the issue after it, and it looks like that signature says MACHLAN, which would be Mike Machlan who did a lot of fan art in the 1970s. The cover of the third issue was by Bill Black, and I know that he and Machlan also both worked on Comic Crusader at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your hard work! But who is Art? More to come
