It would be redunk to not have at least one post of this great artist. I'd tell you he's powerful and colorful and com'n atcha, but you can see all that. Thanks, Lucas, for reminding me of a tasty visual I'd let slumber for two decades

I've always liked his stuff. If you have the time (and inclination) check out the video "Shock of Green" on his site, which is a time-lapse film of him painting a ginormous portrait of the Joker.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder, Russ--I've gone back and, although he creeps me out, added a couple of Jokers (I usually discard them before playing a serious round of Anaconda)
DeleteWow! Thank YOU Cap! Can you honestly look at stuff like those first Slaine frames you got there and not just go "holy shit!" Thanks so much for also finding stuff that i hadn't seen before! Like that Tarzan and early Dredd! ;-D
ReplyDeleteJudge Dredd was how I remember seeing Biz, so I had to stick him in. You recently said Simon hit you hard at age 14, and I can def relate, as I first saw Barry Smith at 14, and am still riding the groove train on that one, especially anytime he draws sump'n Conan
DeleteOh yes, i really like Barry Smith... i even like a lot his first stuff , learning by channeling Kirby. I love my copy of Essential Conan # 1... then the guy became this huge artist at the level of Maroto or Kaluta. Great stuff. What Bisley did to me was like pulling up the carpet under my feet , he knocked me out with his punk rock irreverent style. I had a period of considering everything before Biz classical and square! Then i grew up... too bad!
ReplyDeleteTrue dat. We have a poet who once said, "genius is wisdom and youth"
