In The Lower Depths by George Metzger

Long before The Buyer's Guide, there was already a newspaper fanzine for comic fans, The Voice Of Comicdom.  Sheeeesh, talk about your Lost Worlds (which I still covet), here's a Metzger I just learned about

  1. Me too never. Neither did Fantagraphics, since it wasn't in the new Metzger collection ( They did seem to have all the Mal-Ig comics, though). So thanks again. Voice of Comicdom is one of those white whales for me, for the appearances of Corben's Rowlf, or more specifically the two wraparound covers, which maybe Dark Horse will reprint in their upcoming book. Speaking of which...this looks promising: https://www.budsartbooks.com/product/the-fantastic-art-of-roy-g-krenkel/

    1. Thanks to you! White whales seems very appropro, as I may now have to voyage after VOC like Gothic Blimp Works back when you turned me onto that. My big thanks, however, is for the RGK book coming on Halloween. Hope we can finally see Roy's take on The Scarlet Citadel by REH

  2. They're up on Ebay now, so maybe you can get scans. While I was there, found this, even more expensive, with color by Kenneth Smith. Looks almost like electrified Tim Conrad: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175855037396?itmmeta=01JWKKHA2XNC69BQ15317NK1FA&hash=item28f1c6ebd4

    1. wowsers, thanks so much! Have dug Berni's Color The Monsters as colored by Kenneth, and he did some beauty colors on Barry's Four Ages (and Tupenny Conan, maybe?), but I've never seen the Islands like this. Georgeous

  3. I'd forgotten, but yeah, now that you mention it. He also colored at least one Frazetta print. I'd buy a portfolio of all of it, but the rights to everything would be hard to untangle.
