George Barr is a puzzle inside an enigma buried in a lost crypt, and the fact that I just learned he did an actual comic....wow. This B.S. is beautiful, and makes me want more
I've just finished a reread of Broken Sword for the first time in 4 decades and was stunned anew by the depth and quality of this dark, beautiful and ferocious saga. It brought back distant memories of encountering George Barr's gorgeous pages when I read them as they first appeared in the consecutive issues of Trumpet. They were evocative, accomplished, nuanced and very true to the spirit of Anderson's dark epic and as I reread this novel, George's art popped into my mind in images as vivid as when I last saw them decades ago. So thanks for reprinting them. I knew George pretty well as a friend and mentor and at 35, kind of a "big brother artist" to my youthful 16. He didn't suffer fools and was an articulate man with strong educated opinions on most subjects. But he and fellow artist Tim Kirk were gracious mentor's and inspirations to me when I began to consider pursuing art as a full-time career.
Wow, thank you so much for stop'n by and leaving your amazing comment. Have always loved George Barr and Tim Kirk, and now that I've looked, love your stuff as well (especially drawn to the movie proposal art). Hopefully I'll find more (or all?) of Broken Sword and post it sometime soon
