Oh, my heck! I often say I'm so broke, I cannae even pay attentioin, but this one's so obscure, I don't even blame myself. Niekas was a sci-fi/ Tolkien fanzine (not even comics!), and this 1968 back cover was literally the end of it. Just flashed on Zach, the big dumb hunk on Big Bang Theory, saying he hadn't been to a comicbook store "in literally a million years." If you want an interesting read, look up Niekas on wiki

Bode was damn prolific. I only knew this one because of a book called Vaughn Bode: Rare and Well Done that collects fanzine, convention and sci-fi pulp art.
ReplyDeleteIncredibly prolific, and way too short a span, like the roman candle friends of Jack Kerouac in On The Road: “[...]the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and everybody goes “Awww!”
