Some Bob Juanillo

Got to be a great fanzine artist if your name ends in "illo."  I don't know of a lot more from Bob (left off a three page sci-fi comic from the great fanzine Scream Door), but I would love to see more, if you can clue me in.  He passed way too young

  1. I haven't thought of this guy for years. I remember seeing his name in fanzine ads in TBG and RBCC, but can't place exactly where, so I googled and only got about as far as you did. He apparently was in Promethean #1 and the Frazetta zine, neither of which I have. I associate him with Ken Smith for some reason, they were probably both in some old fanzines together. There were some artists that were ubiquitous for a stretch and then went back to the real world or otherwise disappeared. Remember Richard Garrison? Something I just learned is that Juanillo did interior art for the American editions of Perry Rhodan that Ackerman edited. And I found this: https://poopsheetfoundation.com/index.php/pf-database/fanzines/pow-1 That Sterankillo guy was not bad either.

    1. Thanks for all the good info! I've added a barbaric paint'n to the post that pops up under Frazetta zine. I dunnae recall Richard Garrison, but it led me to Frank Brunner's great Smash Gordon, which was fun to see again

    3. Okay, not sure if I replied to myself instead of you earlier (sheeesh! dunnae ever get old), but I also put up the Pow! fanzine cover you showed me, and now an illo from Promethean (Lizard VS Tarzan?). By the way, your memory was correct: Kenneth Smith AND Bob Juanillo both appeared in the fanzine This Is Legend

  2. Juanillo, twoillos, threeillos, four. By the way, I don't know if you've seen it ; this is not the sort of zine I'm into, but interesting as a document:https://www.amazon.com/COMIC-READER-DRAWING-BOARD-JERRY/dp/B0B381JJ54

    1. Yeah, not really my cupa tea, either, although I seem to recall an occasional great piece of art (the preview seems to lack that)
