Best Comic Cover? by Frank Frazetta

Wayne, onea my first 12 followers, says this is the best cover ever, but I dunnae.  If the editors for Famous Funnies #217 rejected that second image as not good enough to represent Buck Rogers, who am I to argue?  And Wayne's cover judging is suspect, since he also says Conan #4 is the best cover ever, and Shield #2 is the best cover ever, and New Gods #7 is the best cover ever, and.....

  1. They never said it wasn't good enough. Famous Funnies only rejected it because it was too violent for them. Anyway, I'm certainly not going to argue with a fellow Wayne who has the good taste to recognize that this is the best comic book cover ever, just as surely as Superman 14 is the best ever, Batman 11 is the best ever, Spider-Man 28 is the best ever, Fantastic Four 39 is the best ever, Nick Fury 6 ...

  2. Too violent, too sexy, too cool for school, whatever. Here's the thing with Wayne and I--we're approaching Nirvana (mid sixties), but he grew up DC and I, cool Cap'n that I am, grew up Marvel. So I know nothing of this Super/Bat man of which you speak, and I put words in Wayne's mouth when I mentioned Nick Fury 2 (Nick Fury 6 is awesome and coming up again soon on here), all he really says is WSF 28 and Conan 4, but he luvs Steranko (we all 3 have great taste, by the by), and I personally think Nick Fury 2 is the bestest

  3. Frazetta discussed it being called the best cover ever in at least one interview I remember. I'm speculating that Russ Cochran may have been the originator of that superlative, as he did varied color versions of it in the old EC portfolio series as well as a Famous Funnies print set.

  4. No, I'm pretty sure my buddy Wayne came up with the term. But I'm intrigued by my misunderstanding, you're not saying this is on a print as Famous Funnies #217,I know, but at first glance, that's what I thought, and that'd be way cool. Also, I read Creepy #16 was Frank and Ellie's personal fav cover
