Flip'n Cars On 101 With Jim Steranko

  1. The original of this is for sale on Heritage right now

  2. I first saw this image in the late 1970's, as part of a double-page montage of Steranko's work in THE STERANKO HISTORY OF COMICS Vol 1 (1970). I drove myself crazy for years trying to find where it originally appeared, and only in the days of the internet some 35 years later could I get an answer to that question:
It's the image that appeared with the first printing of Harlan Ellison's story "Along the Scenic Route" in AMAZING STORIES, September 1969 (re-titled by the editor as "Dogfight on 101" for this issue.)

The same story appears under its original title as "Along the Scenic Route" in Harlan Ellison's 1975 short story collection, THE DEATHBIRD STORIES.
