I drove myself crazy for years trying to find where it originally appeared, and only in the days of the internet some 35 years later could I get an answer to that question:<br /> It's the image that appeared with the first printing of Harlan Ellison's story "Along the Scenic Route" in AMAZING STORIES, September 1969 (re-titled by the editor as "Dogfight on 101" for this issue.) <br /><br />The same story appears under its original title as "Along the Scenic Route" in Harlan Ellison's 1975 short story collection, THE DEATHBIRD STORIES.
