  1. Nightmaster notwithstanding, Weird Mystery Tales marked the arrival of Wrightson in many ways. It came out around the same time as House of Secrets #92, but we had no idea that a year later that would spawn a regular Swamp Thing comic. Though basically a reprint book, WMT was built around new pages drawn by and depicting Wrightson himself as a character introducing each section of the book. The titanic new format really called attention to itself, as did the stunning black cover. I knew Berni's work from fanzines and Web of Horror, but this was the book that seemed to cross a rubicon in my eyes.
