 At first sight, my thought was "whoa-it's like Star Hawks on steroids!"  And if you drop the A in the title...

      1982 Gil does the cover for Asteroids #1, based on the video game, but it never happened

      Wow, I have no idea! I can't remember last week anymore, and this was over a year ago. I rounded up my usual suspects (Heritage, Comic Art Fans, etc.) and you're right, it's nowhere to be found! I'm not on Facebook, but Gil has a mighty presence there. Also, it coulda been eBay or Flicr, but I don't know how to search those. weird. Congrats, though, it's certainly a beaut
