I've been reading for years that this is one of the "few times" that Jack has inked himself and I don't believe it. That inking sure looks like Frank Giacoia to me. I know Marvel stated this fact in the Bullpen Bulletins, but I don't buy it.
They say only the figure of Cap is by Kirby, and the rest is Don Heck and Joe Sinnott. It could be. It's not his usual inking style like you see on his late 1950's stuff when he was doing a lot of his own inks, but he might have been playing around trying to ink like Sinnott, and those little slashes of black on the pelvis do look like Jack.
I enlarged it on my computer and looked very closely at it. It's quite a mish-mosh of styles. I'm not sure who did any of it now. A Marvel Mystery for the ages.

ReplyDeleteDitto....I'm such a slave to fashion (err-popular opinion), I've repeatedly droned it myself, but it DOES look like Giacoia inks

ReplyDeleteYeah I concur. Unless he was imitating the current House style of inking I say it was not Jack either.
