Conan Guards The Wall by Barry Smith

Posts from the wayback will show I love the cover to Conan Saga #1.  I remember tell'n my local comic shop at the time when it first came out, "alright! another fantasy fulfilled!"  I'd been in mourning for Barry's Conan ever since Savage Tales #3 came and went many years before.  Think I said it before, but this image reminds me of my mom's voice.  It's all well and good, until an enemy starts using flaming arrows.  Hence the return to the flaming skies of the beginning of this whole magilla

 

Three Holes In Space by Mike Kaluta

First two are up on here before, but maybe these are better?  I'm pretty sure that third page wasn't on here in the wayback, though.  You may ask yourself why the Cap'n is being such a spacehole about this, but I dig this story and have only seen glimpses.  Apparently (everytime I say apparently I think of the e-trade commercial where the baby boy says, "Apparently, riding the family dog like a horse is FROWNED upon in this establishment!"), this was only published in the rare fanzines Spa Fon #3 and Spa Fon #4.  So, I've never really seen it, cause I don't have hundreds of spare dollars for every whim (that's probly a good thing)

 

Callisto by Jim Steranko

Is it....is it really?  I know that Steranko's painting was around before the Eric John Stark paperback, but Carter's softbound Callisto (the paperback covers for the Callisto series, by the by, were really gruesome) was definitely the "Johnny Come Lately" on this great work

 

The Winged Helmet by Wally Wood

Yikes!  Just saw that first image today, and I dig it so much!  In the wayback (2 years ago next month),  I got into searching old Worlds of If magazines for young Vaughn Bode, and happened upon that second image, but not the other.  Riddle me this: did Wally draw a winged helmet for this story?  That would be equally cool, if it exists

Okay, that last image is the true splash, but I've always dug the two pages afterwards.  The filigre on Black Knight's mask....yum....
