This was a personal work, so maybe not "intended" for anything. Both Frazetta and Kirby had a ton of personal works, which I believe we would expect from great artists
It "reads" (hey look! "Kirby Quotes") like one of the two-pagers from his stint on The Losers in Our Fighting Forces just before he returned to Marvel. Could it be from a final Losers tale that was abandoned when his contract with DC was up?
That would be so cool (another aspect to great artists is how their personal works come back to impress the public the most), but I think in this case, we probly have no way of knowing for certain (and that's alright-to just groove on it). You raise an amaz'n point, however, how this could have taken The Losers to another level (not dated-so...why not?). I think every Kirby fan would have to concur that A Small Place In Hell from the Losers' run was onea Jack's magnum opussessess
