Scarey Fafrd and The Gray Mouser by Jeff Jones

This probably wouldn't be near so creepy without the spectre hovering nearby.  I mean, sure, friends sometimes fight, but...to the death?  I think this is what's going up for sale over at Heritage Auctions on or around All Hallows Eve, but that's just an edumacated guess, because they don't have an image up yet
