Where Is This Is? by Mike Kaluta

Okay, I've lost track of what barbaric Marvel mag I cut this out of, but I dunno if the actual magazine would solve this, anyhoo.  The picture appears at the end of a review of the Conan LP Tower of The Elephant/ Frost Giant's Daughter.  That ain't no Zamora, The City of Thieves (trust me, I would know), but...where is it is?  I luvit so much, but have no clue.  If you know, please let me know

  1. It was in Savage Sword # 11, but they don't source it. It's not in either of the MwK Howard books I own, which would've been my guess. And the Glimmer Graphics online "Definitive Index" only identifies it as "drawing", so hell if I know. Could've been a study he had laying around, or could've first appeared in a REH fanzine I haven't seen. Or any fanzine. I did enjoy doing a quick sweep of Kaluta art out there; there's a lot more than I knew about. For instance, did you know he illustrated two Celtic Calendars in the early 2000's ? Now that I've seen them, I'm hunting online, but I keep running into basketball photos.

    1. Ha! Sounds like when I search Art Cooper and get drawings of Alice Cooper! Thanks for try'n on the "drawing" puzzle, and I can really relate on run'n into lots of unknown Kaluta. I either forgot or never saw his beauty Zorro stuff, and (of course) there's a bunch more Kaluta Shadows out there since last I looked. I take it you saw the 2002 and 2003 Celtic Calendars on Kaluta's site (complete but tiny), and the CC stuff on DMR Books site (bigger but only partial)? If not, this would be the first score for the Cap'n! So let's check the tallysheet so far: that's Cap'n-one point and Russ-a bazillion points

  2. Knowing more about what I don't have is not exactly a win; it's more like a curse, but at least it's entertaining.

    1. That pretty much perfectly sums up this blog. As I've told Library Guy and others, the number of physical comics and books I possess is incredibly low, but I get to see almost everything I'm passionate about with a wave of the hand
