Far-Out Jack Kirby

I know the sixties connotation for "far-out" was shaded by psychedelic and trippy, but the term came out of the jazz movement of the fifties, used to describe an artist who was innovative and exciting

  1. And here it means both.

I appreciate those sorts of cultural continuity notes. And, of course, always appreciate Kirby.

    1. Excellent observation. I know in my very core that Jack never took shrooms or dropped acid (Timothy Leary and Ken Kesey fans, don't be hate'n), but he was obviously "connected" with The Source, and we get to enjoy all that

  2. No worries, nor hatin'
As a fan of Tim, and someone who's spent time with him, and i can tell you that your core is true - Jack was never interested, and Tim would have respected that.
And it never stopped Jack from being good friends with Frank Zappa, either.

    1. Oh, yeah, thanks for the reminder! Ahmet said Jack and his dad would hang out and chain-smoke (Jack cigars and Frank cigs), and that the "valley dads" were pretty tight. That, in itself, is very far-out
