  1. Back in the early TBG days, a friend and I put out a really crappy fanzine and ran an impressive ad in Buyers' Guide that made it look slicker than it was. Got a letter from Caldwell soliciting work, with an illustrated sticker on the envelope and printed art on the stationery. It was early days for him, but it was beautiful line art. He wanted to know what our rates were for art, and i was like gee, we're just kids, we have no idea what we're doing and no money. I wish I'd kept some of that old mail.

    1. Wow, just awesome stuff! I always knew I dug the way your head operates (never said it, but you're like "Cap'n 2.5" in my think'n), but I never realized the fanzine stuff. Is that how you hooked up with Wrightson? Anyhoo, yeah, that sounds like Clyde to me, very gifted and very industrious

  2. No, the two events are separated by space and time (just like in the picture), but it reminds me of how many fannish and creative friends I had during that decade. Reggie, the guy who took me to meet BW, ended up doing some art for Marvel's Crazy magazine, and also played guitar in a band called the Jazz All-Stars. We've lived through some cool times, haven't we? I'm like the anti-matter Cap'n, Cap.

    1. Cool times indeed. The word Jazz made me riff on Al Jarreau, who I got to play an outdoor game of hoops with back in the late 70s

    1. Dunnae know about that. If anything, feels like we all win, but I'll always be jelly that you got to hang with Wrightson. I'm working on a concept/thesis/paper that I been think'n about for some time that I'll probably slap up here someday, that everyone is a celebrity
