Apparently, image 7 (& 12) down isn't genuine. It's a mock-up, using a transformed Giant-Man drawing from Tales to Astonish. Someone's gone to a lot of trouble, even adding Jack's signature to it.
Wow, Kid, as soon as I saw your comment, I realized you were right. I apologize for being such a slave to fashion, but when I saw the gun-wielding Spiderman, it made sense to me, cuz of the history I've read over the years of The Silver Spider by Joe Simon and CC Beck morphing to the Fly by Simon and Kirby and the rumors of Kirby initially turning in a splash of Spiderman dressed as pictured. I've added the Giant Man issue I think you refer to (although I no longer have the exact picture you mention) and the Ditko (?) illustration that may have led to all this. Also, just another Kirby image that made this fake resonate with me. The reason I think it was that TTA issue is because of all the "hunkering down" Jack has Giant Man doing, and the fake picture is in that same hunkered down style. Thanks for another great insight, Kid!
No bother at all, Cap. Thanks for all your great posts.
Great post, I was wondering the other day about how many times he drew Spidey, seems it was a bit more than I expected. You could add this to your list too:http://www.comicartfans.com/forsaledetails.asp?artid=374533&did=4
Thanks, but there's really not very many Spideys by Kirby here (keep in mind my blog is fun but repetitious). I can't follow your link, but I think you're referring to Jack's contribution to a Spiderman calendar in 1978 (Cap'n is class of 78, by the), and I hope to add that and some more Kirby Spideys in the not-so-distant (the Electric Co ones were great)
