Iron Men by Steve Ditko


OK, so it's the guy so broke he cannae even pay attention, but I had NO idea Ditko did iron man (Space Knight I knew about, just ignored....a guy skill...)

    Not just in these later appearances, Ditko penciled the Iron-Man stories in Tales of Suspense 47-49, making him one of the first Iron-Man artists. Before you get too excited, be warned that all three suffer greatly from not being inked by Ditko.

      Havenae looked yet, but that's a bummer. Years ago, I got all pumped when I found Nukla by Ditko in the cheap seats, but it turned out Sylvester Stallone had inked it as a young child (okay, Sal Trapani, who I always mistook for the inker Rocke). Whoever inked, it was gruesome, and soon back in the cheap seats

      Even more unfortunately, Trapani also inked Ditko's issues of Get Smart and Hogan's Heroes (yes, those are a real thing, issues 2-3 in both series).

      Sounds like Sal was to Ditko kinda like Vinnie and Syd were to Kirby

    Yup. Modern day butchers. Ditko was also responsible for the modern look of Iron Man

      Yeah, it's a shame what great art may have been lost to heavy-handed ink'n. Big John Buscema and Gil Kane also come to mind, and the Steranko run on the X-Men (except'n the covers) doesnae even look like him. Cool to find out Ditko's influence on Iron Man (a la Wood with Daredevuil), but not a big surprise. Ditko has always been onea the true artistic genius' of comics, which definitely encompasses creation and innovation
