.............and the cover in our dimension, as mostly done by Jack Kirby. Odd thing is, I love the cover Jack did 2 issues earlier (specially w/o the Torch and Thing as Beatles), but the Kirby part of 132s cover may be my least fav art ever
A day later (and a dollar shorter) here's the page from whence came the mock-up, and that same story's splash, also rock'n the magic bolts and contorted fingers and groovy little statues
As an obsessive comics fan I have to ask about the corner box on that unused cover. My thought was it looked like Steranko Nick Fury, but that wouldn't be happening for a couple more years.
ReplyDeleteNot Steranko I'm sure, although I see it now that you said it. This is from at least a decade ago, so I'm clueless, but a talented individual was post'n all kinds of beautiful mock-ups of what shoulda been. My guess is that box is from Mysterious Traveller, but IDK
DeleteI agree with this. Kirby did not use the Ditko style magic beam that denotes magic in use but ..wavy lines..ugh. I re-read the ST #132, written by Larry Ivie was actually pretty good, much different than a Stan Lee story.
