In England, you can use a v for versus, which sounds weird to me, cause growing up, everyone said VS (I didn't even know about the word versus-so every fight was a VS). Late sixties, Big John was boggl'n me with Avengers covers and Silver Surfer covers and Sub-Mariner covers, but this was right up there
This is one of the earliest comics I ever picked up. Big John's artwork blew me away, so muscular and powerful on the cover. I was already a big Cyclops fan because of the way Ross Andru rendered the eyebeam, a red shaft of power, and Big John captures beautifully here. Cranky old Pietro was always fun as well. I always torn between the classic green and light blue which he used later. Loved how this crossed over with Avengers at the time.
ReplyDeleteNot just England - Britain! They're not the same thing, you know.
ReplyDeleteMy bad, just flashed quickly on the England on the cover, and it even says right below it other parts of the empire
DeleteEh? you mean you missed the cover banner which says 'Britain's Super-hero Action Comic' in big letters? Time for your yearly eye check-up, Cap'n.
DeleteThe eye-doc has tried, but everything's a blur. Lasic might help, but I am too big a scaredy-cat for that
DeleteI'd love to look at these, but Cyclops shattered my senses and it hasn't worn off yet.
ReplyDeleteHa! Hope you recover soon
